The Bridge ECD Community of Practice has launched the ECD Practitioner Quality Reflection Tool, which assists ECD practitioners in understanding quality in ECD practice and helps them identify their strengths and weaknesses so they are able to develop and improve their professional capabilities. The tool is a result of discussions and debates around the issue of quality in ECD and what it meant in different ECD contexts.
Different dimensions of quality are covered:
- teaching and learning
- the ECD environment
- ECD policy framework
- leadership and management
Reflection on these quality areas, which have been selected based on input from national and provincial community of practice levels, will help practitioners identify areas of their work where they may need to find more information or get help in developing. In each of the quality dimensions, there are reflection questions that are meant to facilitate the process of reflection.
The tool ends off with a Planning and Resources section that helps practitioners to plan for their professional development and also directs them to some useful resources.
The ECD Practitioner Quality Reflection Tool can be downloaded and freely used and adapted as an open education resource, with acknowledgment to BRIDGE. It is intended to be printed and used in a ring binder file so that practitioners can add in their own pages of writing as required.
Ilifa is one of the funders who supported the development of the tool, particularly in the pilot phase.
