The South African Early Childhood Review 2019 is an annual statistical review and analysis of the key data indicators for children under 6. Data indicators are carefully selected from across the Essential Package of ECD services:
- Primary level maternal and child health
- Nutritional support
- Support for primary caregivers
- Social services and income support
- Stimulation for early learning
The 2019 edition discusses the need for coordinated ECD service delivery across all government departments with responsibilities to children, as well as the opportunities to do so given the proposed shift in ECD function from the Department of Social Development to Basic Education.
The South African Early Childhood Review 2019 is a joint publication between Ilifa Labantwana, the Children’s Institute at the University of Cape Town, the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency, The Grow Great Campaign, and Innovation Edge.
