Appraising the completeness of Road-to-Health booklets at ECD centres in Eastern Cape, South Africa

Tags: Responsive care

Dr Jessica Ronaasen, a researcher at The DO MORE Foundation, unpacks findings from an appraisal of the Road-to-Health Booklets across ECD centres in under-resourced areas of Nelson Mandela Bay. The Road-to-Health Booklet is a nationally scaled tool intended to support the health and growth of young children in South Africa. This research shows that its potential, particularly for preventing stunting and malnutrition, is often weakened by incomplete recording in everyday practice. It draws on practice-based research conducted in collaboration with NGO and ECD sector partners and adopts a multidisciplinary perspective that brings health systems, caregivers, and early learning environments into the same frame.
