Using systems thinking for programme theory and evaluation in ECD: A feasibility study

Tags: Advocacy | Quality

This presentation introduces a systems thinking approach to designing Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks for early childhood (ECD) development programmes. It details the development and testing of a MEL toolkit with two ECD organisations, aiming to improve strategic understanding and readiness for evaluation. Findings show that systems thinking enhances programme design by mapping interdependencies, identifying leverage points, and fostering adaptive learning. The toolkit is positioned as a practical resource for evaluators and non-profits seeking to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and accountability.
